PK Alliance member Unlimited Video Staging (UVS) deployed a PK Sound T8 robotic line source system to capture every nuance of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra's Phil in the Park, performed for more than 10,000 guests on Prince's Island in the heart of PK's home city.
Now in its second annual edition, the free outdoor concert brings the full orchestra to one of Calgary's most beloved public spaces – and presents a classic performing arts challenge: reproducing the dynamic range and delicacy of a symphony orchestra outdoors, at scale, without overwhelming the surrounding park and river pathways.
UVS's design paired T8 compact robotic modules with T18 intelligent subwoofers and Tx Series intelligent point source fills. Using PK's patented Multi-Axis Robotics, the team tailored the system's vertical and horizontal coverage precisely to the audience area, preserving the orchestra's full dynamic spectrum – from pianissimo strings to full-ensemble crescendos – while minimizing spill beyond the site.
The deployment showcases why robotic line source technology has found a natural home in performing arts applications: transparent, full-range reproduction with surgical coverage control, deployed quickly and with a minimal visual footprint.
For UVS – which joined the PK network in 2024 with an investment in T8 specifically to mitigate noise pollution at urban events – the hometown collaboration with the Calgary Philharmonic was a fitting showcase of exactly that capability.
