FRONT of HOUSE Magazine has gone behind the scenes of PK Sound’s noise-controlling deployment at South Of Heaven, dedicating a Festival Focus feature by Thomas S. Friedman to the system design, the team, and the measured results at the Netherlands’ destination metal festival.
Held June 5–7 at Maastricht’s Gashouder — a 16-metre industrial monument beside the city’s Frontenpark — the festival’s second edition welcomed Megadeth, Sepultura, Black Label Society, Anthrax, and Alestorm. It also arrived with a mandate: the City of Maastricht asked the production to reduce the event’s noise impact on neighbouring residential areas.
As the feature details, audio partners Clarity · Design & Sonic Optimization and Demo Productions worked from measurement data gathered at the 2025 edition and answered with robotic precision: main arrays of 14 Trinity Black robotic line source elements per side, T10 robotic outfills and front fills, 39 T218 intelligent subwoofers in 13 cardioid columns, and two PK Cells uniting power, signal, and network distribution. The entire system was designed, controlled, and monitored in .dynamics, with the new .dynamics MOVE app letting engineers reshape coverage in real time from anywhere on the festival grounds.
“We could steer the sound away from the residential areas and focus the energy on the audience,” Demo Productions project manager Sjoerd Peeters told the magazine. “The results were impressive: significantly fewer complaints from residents, without exceeding the permitted noise levels; while maintaining a powerful, high-quality audience experience.”
South of Heaven board chair Richard Loomans called the collaboration exceptional, singling out the system’s ability to tightly focus the soundfield exactly where it was needed — powerful, immersive sound for guests with minimal disturbance to the surrounding areas. Sepultura FOH engineer Conrado Rüther agreed: “Very easy to mix. Lots of headroom. I’m very happy with the results.”
PK Sound supported the deployment from start to finish, with EU applications specialist George Pakenham onsite throughout and Mike Case, Director, Partnerships & Networks, joined by CEO Jeremy Bridge on opening day.
